Labor Day History
Labor Day is a fun legal holiday in the United States of America because most of us do not have to work, we get a day off. The first Monday in September every year it is celebrated as a day for America to honor it's finest workers.
Some local areas or communities have Labor Day parades and sometimes their politicians even give political speeches. But the first Labor Day celebration in the United States wasn't about family and fun, instead, it was all about working on how to make life better for America's working class.
Countries all over the entire world have Labor Day but it is not always celebrated on the same day as the United States. Besides the U.S., Canada is the only country that observes Labor Day on the first Monday in September. China, India and many European countries choose to honor their workers on May 1st (International Worker's Day). Also, New Zealand celebrates Labor Day on the 4th Monday of October, and Australia allows states and territories to schedule their own observances.
