Memorial Fund Policy (Sample)
The Memorial Fund Policy (sample) is available free below to download, customize and print 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at your convenience for your church administrative office, Human Resources Department, etc.
Memorial funds receive gifts honoring a person's life in your church community, etc.
This policy for a memorial fund describes the purpose and stewardship of gifts, appropriate uses and local traditions. Since families and members cannot create designated funds, their input does not override the church's authority to make the final decision.
This policy for Memorial Fund below provides guidance when receiving funds to memorialize or honor an individual and includes:
- Church Name
- Policy Title - Memorial Fund Policy
- Policy - The Stewardship and Finance Committee will have the responsibility of overseeing Memorial Gifts whether in monetary or physical form.
- Signatures - Senior Pastor, Secretary...
- Revised Date - Insert date the policy was revised if applicable.
No physical memorial gift may be disposed of without recommendation from the Stewardship and Finance Committee. In the event that such a gift is disposed of, the record of the gift will continue to be a part of the church records.
All Memorial Gifs of money or property will be recorded in the Memorial Gift Book in the Memorial Register Stand for permanent record. A separate listing will be placed in a secure location in the church office records.
A list of appropriate uses for Memorial Gift funds or physical donations will be compiled by requesting input from each committee, i.e., Worship, Buildings and Grounds, Congregational Life and Stewardship and Finance. This list will be revisited and updated on an as needed basis. The list will also be made available to the congregation in the church office.
Specific suggestions or wishes of the family for who’s loved one the donation is made will be considered by the Stewardship and Finance Committee.
Money placed in the Memorial Gift Fund will be restricted for that use only according to the policy outlined above.
This sample policy for a Memorial Fund can be used as a tool to create one specific to your church or organization depending the different committees you might have the staff you have in charge of your memorial funds.
