Inclement Weather Policy (Sample)

What are inclement weather conditions?
Inclement normally refers to severe or harsh weather that has the existence of rain or abnormal climatic conditions (whether they be those of hail, snow, cold, high wind, severe dust storm, extreme high temperature or the like), by virtue of which it is unsafe and/or unreasonable for people to be out in these conditions.
Inclement weather events or other emergencies that can occur to the detriment of your church operation can include:
- Tornadoes
- High Winds
- Snow
- Sleet and Ice
- Flooding
- Hurricanes
- Building Fires
You have to prepare your church for closure when members or visitors might experience dangerous conditions trying to get to church.
A well thought out policy regarding inclement weather should be a part of your church plan and readily available in your church policy manual or safety manual where Board Members or staff can read it and have the knowledge of what to do if inclement weather occurs before church services or church events.
The policy below for inclement weather conditions includes:
- Inclement Weather - It’s the policy of [Church Name] that during inclement weather, all Board Members will proactively call the Pastor or designee and state their individual opinions about whether or not to cancel a scheduled church service or church activity/event. Such calls should always be made at least three hours prior to the service or the activity/event. The Pastor or Pastor’s designee will make the final determination. The Pastor or Pastor’s designee will update the message on the church phone voice mail, ensure that any schedule change is posted on the church Facebook and on the church website.
- Signatures - Senior Pastor and Secretary's Signature
- Revised Date - Insert date that policy was revised if applicable.
